    Accounts
  • Based on enrolment data, new accounts will be created and account information e-mailed to students at the beginning of each semester. Continuing accounts will just be extended.
  • If you received an e-mail message then an account has been created for you:
Note that these accounts are created independently from UQ login accounts (see UQConnect) but they are linked to the UQ authentication service (Kerberos domain KRB5.UQ.EDU.AU).
For example, the UQ student account "s123456" is created in our domain GEOSCIPLNG as "s123456" but with a local password. The e-mailed username and password must be used to log into the domain GEOSCIPLNG. A student with a valid GEOSCIPLNG account may use his/her UQ username and UQ password to log into the domain KRB5.UQ.EDU.AU (choose from the [optional] 3rd line, Domain, of the login window).

  • If you have not received an e-mail (eg late enrolment) and you require access, contact the technical staff (Rm 35-431 or 35-403):
    • with your current Student Card and mention the GSP course/s you are enrolled in.
    • We will create your user account and record your details.
  • Continuing students have their account extended.
  • Student accounts expire at the end of each semester.
  • In week 4 of the following semester, student accounts that are still expired (no enrolment in GSP courses) are deleted, their data removed and any remaining print credit purged! Please use remaining credit up by the end of semester or transfer it to another student.
    Student data
  • A home directory for your files was created with the same name as your Username.
  • Undergrads home directories are under S:\Undergrads or \\atlas2\students\Undergrads
  • Postgrads home directories are under S:\Postgrads or \\atlas2\students\Postgrads
  • It is the student's responsibility to maintain backup copies of their data
  • No right of personal usage exists. Student data may be inspected by authorised staff
  • All student data will be deleted after the end of each semester
    Printing
  • Undergrads and coursework postgrads are given $1.10 print credit to start with.
  • Use the PC Client tool (available on all PCs) to check the remaining credit.
  • More credit can be added by paying UQ Student Services (J.D. Story Bldg) with a Print Deposit Form
    - the forms are available outside 35-432, from this Intranet page or the office (35-408)
    - the amount is fixed to $5 or $10 incl. 10% GST per form.
  • Present the receipt to the office (35-408) to obtain a TopUp card. Enter the unique one-time code from the card into the Papercut website.
  • Printer credit is non-refundable unless the full amount is still available!
  • Continuing students have access to their previous semester's print credit.
  • When a user account expires access to printer credit is no longer available!
  • Print credit may be transfered to another student.
  • When a user account is deleted any remaining printer credit is purged from the system! Please use remaining credit by end of semester.
  • Page costs range from 11¢ to several dollars per page, depending on page size, medium and printer. Click on 'Printers and Faxes' and see the 'Comments' field for details or read the 'Printing' section of the Lab LOGIN webpage (the page you get when first logging in on a lab PC).
  • The printing accounting software pauses print jobs, counts the number of pages and deducts (number of pages)*(per page cost) from your balance. If insufficient funds are available the job is deleted without printing or debitting your account. It is possible to cancel a print job that hasn't started printing yet and get the money back.

  • Which printer to use ? (eg B/W Laser, Colour Laser, large format inkjet etc)
click 'Start -> Printers and Faxes'; the Printer Comments describe the following:
    • Sizes of paper
    • Colour or black & white (B/W)
    • Media type (plain paper, special paper, transparency)
    • Cost per page
    • Location of printer
  • It is advisable to check which printer is the current default device before sending a job.
  • Double-click the Printer Icon that appears on the bottom-right of the Task Bar, after you printed, to check on the queueing status of your print job.
  • Some printers maybe paused to prevent accidental printing on expensive media, please advise tech staff of print jobs to be released.
  • Paper and consumables are supplied for all printers.
  • Please ask tech staff if print resources run out or with other printing related problems (eg paper jams).
  • Please treat the Lab printers with care - damaged printers will be withdrawn, not necessarily replaced!
    Other
  • Please read the Lab LOGIN page (a webpage automatically displayed when you log in to a lab PC) for announcements and current information.
  • Class bookings override casual usage.
  • Inform technical staff (35-403 or 35-431) of any software or hardware problems.
