  • Environmental Management Systems Environmental Management Systems Increasing community awareness and expectations has led to increases in the scope and severity of environmental legislation. This, coupled with the now well established awareness, within both the public and private sectors, of the potential financial benefits of effective and efficient environmental management makes the implementation of a formal Environmental Management System (EMS) a sound business decision. This course covers the development and implementation of an EMS based on the existing international standard, ISO14001. During the course, students will learn how the EMS standard can be applied to most business situations and through the analysis of case studies, will develop an understanding of common problems encountered by businesses in obtaining genuine benefits from their organisation's EMS. The course is a workshop based program that requires the participation of students in structured workshop exercises, discussions and the critical assessment of case studies. Environmental Auditing The role of environmental auditing in the management of corporations, both public and private, is well established in Australia. The environmental auditing process is designed to assist management to identify, rectify and manage environmental risks and comply with legislative obligations. This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the environmental auditing process and how to plan and implement an environmental audit.
