The Climate Project The Climate Project - Australia came to life in November 2006 when former US Vice President Al Gore travelled to Australia and trained 84 selected people to deliver an Australian version of his slide show made famous in his Oscar winning movie "An Inconvenient Truth". After spending 30 years perfecting his presentation on global warming, Mr Gore decided to establish the Climate Project. The program aims to build a critical mass of grassroots support to advance awareness and action through training, educating and equipping the community to help stop dangerous climate change. The Climate Project - Australia was the first program established outside of the USA. What has happened since Mr Gore's visit in November has been overwhelming. In four months, our presenters have delivered more than 150 slide shows in every state of Australia to audiences numbering in the thousands. The presenters continue to galvanise a public willing to change the way they act in order to help stop dangerous climate change now. The home of the Climate Project is Nashville, where 1000 presenters will be trained by Mr Gore. The Climate Project is also looking to establish programs elsewhere, including in the UK. The Climate Project - Australia is looking forward to welcoming Mr Gore back in 2007 to train more people and continue the program's valuable work. About Rachel Mitchell Rachel Mitchell is a graduate of the University of Queensland where she undertook a Bachelor of Environmental Management (Sustainable Development). After finishing her degree, Rachel commenced employment as an Environmental Advisor with Anglo Coal at their Moranbah North mine site. At the site, Rachel advises the company on many aspects of environmental performance, including offsetting greenhouse gas emissions from their site. Rachel was selected out of a field of more than 1700 applicants to be an Al Gore ambassador on Climate Change. The ACF and Al Gore selected only 85 presenters from a diverse range of interests and industry backgrounds. Rachel then spent two and half days being trained by Al Gore about the Australian Climate Project and slide show. Rachel recently told a newspaper "I think that it is important that each individual realises the responsibility that they have for managing the impact that humans have on the environment, and most importantly, on future generations. Climate change is key in this." |
