UNEP Cleaner Production
The Environmental Management Centre (EMC) is a research, consulting and training group that administers postgraduate environmental studies, and provides environmental consulting services both nationally and internationally. Particular emphasis is given to the theory and practice of sustainability, ecological economics, environmental impact assessment and audits, Cleaner Production, environmental law and policy, eco-tourism, natural resource management, and management of World Heritage Areas.

The Centre is part of the School of Geography, Planning and Architecture within the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture, and has the following primary functions:

- conducting The University of Queensland’s postgraduate programs in environmental management
- conducting continuing education, short course training, seminars and workshops, which are specially designed for the needs of clients and students in the area of environmental management
- conducting research in the field of environmental management, which is undertaken by either staff of the Centre or by PhD and Research Masters students
- conducting consultancies on a wide range of environmental issues
- assisting industry, government and the professions apply new environmental management practices.
